All urges to get back fast internet service across the country
Bangladesh Mobile Phone Consumers Association-BMPCA, a vocal organization on consumer rights, has demanded the relaunching of fast internet service across the country for all. Meanwhile, BASIS and Bangladesh Freelancer Development Society (BFDS) have also echoed this demand to govt. Eirlier, BASIS officially demanded internet priority basis for the technology sector in a press conference held on Tuesday. On the other hand, BFDS President Dr. Tanjiba Rahman urged to find out a way to reduce the loss of earning dollars and trust of the freelancers and demanded internet connection should be opened for everyone even if social media remain close.
In a statement sent to the media on Wednesday, the President of the organization, Mohiuddin Ahmed, said that mobile internet services have been stopped across the country since the 17th instant and broadband internet services have been stopped across the country since the 18th. Due to this, 13 crore internet users and 5 crore internet beneficiaries are facing huge losses. Apart from this, there has been a collapse in trade, industry, medical, education, bank-insurance, software industries and so on. Similarly, business in the telecommunication industry has declined by 30 percent.
There has been a massive disruption to all government utility customers, especially gas, electricity, drinking water, ATM booth withdrawals, mobile banking services. In total, the amount of daily customer account is about 10 thousand crores. Therefore, I call on the government to quickly launch mobile phone-based internet services and broadband internet services as well throughout the country' - he added.
Mohiuddin also said that the government should make arrangements so that all access to the Internet can be used. Remember, the internet is not just for talking anymore. This medium is now internationally recognized as a basic human right by the United Nations. Also, we will demand from the government and BTRC that continuous internet data should be made usable as soon as the internet service is launched. In no way is it advisable to associate it with the next recharge. Because the customer is already exposed to the loss. At the same time, we request the customers not to spread rumors on social media and do not post anything that creates fear. Refrain from making comments that tarnish the reputation of the country or have a negative impact in the outer world.
On the other hand, BFDA president Dr. Tanjiba Rahman said that the freelancers who are providing employment opportunities to others besides themselves by eliminating the employment crysis also facing in trouble due to lack of internet. Most of the freelancers in the country live outside Dhaka. Therefore, it will be logical to open internet services not only in Dhaka but across the country. We have to take the necessary security measures for this. But we have to remember that suddenly they are not able to communicate with the clients as the internet is gone. The country is losing a huge amount of dollars every day. It is feared that the amount of this loss in the freelancing sector will exceed hundreds of crores of rupees. In the long term, this damage can be even worse. Because this situation will have a negative impact on their reviews.
